MMA Fighting Gloves for Striking and Grappling
The sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is rather unique because it is the first sport in thousands of years that combines striking, throwing, and ground grappling. In the days of ancient Rome, this mode of fighting was common. Of course, the arts spun off into boxing, wrestling, and such. Today, we have returned to the origination point with a sport that combines all aspects of combat. This is why there is a need for MMA fighting gloves.
Because grappling and submission moves are mixed in with the striking, you cannot compete with traditional 16oz boxing gloves. Boxing gloves are closer to oversized mittens and this means they do not have finger free dexterity. As a result, you would not be able to use the gloves for locking or grasping. In the early days of the sport, there were no fight gloves used at all. The sport was a bare-knuckle one. The problem was the original concept of bare-knuckle boxing was lost to history and most competitors that greatly emphasized striking suffered from broken knuckles.
Needless to say, this necessitated the wearing of fighting gloves. Since traditional boxing and point fighting gloves were woefully inadequate, designers needed to develop gloves more appropriate for this unique combat sport. The end result was the special MMA fighting gloves that are commonly worn today. These gloves make it possible to engage in a sport while reducing injury potential. That said MMA fighting gloves are structurally designed so well that the art does not need to be watered down to fit the limitations of poorly designed gloves.
These MMA fighting gloves serve a wide range of purposes. Among the most common attributes of the gloves are:
• The gloves reduce the potential to damage the hands. The bones in the hand are quite small and they compress on impact. Fighting gloves provide a slight buffer that greatly reduces the potential for the knuckles to compress and shatter.
• The mobility of the gloves is far from limited. The movement of the hands is not reduced to the point that it makes clinching and grappling restricted. As such, there is really no difference between wearing gloves and not wearing fighting gloves when in the cage with the one obvious difference: injury potential is seriously limited when wearing such gloves.
• In addition to actual performance in the ring or the cage, MMA fighting gloves can be used quite effectively in training. They will handle quite well when hitting focus mitts or Thai pads.
While these gloves are great on concept, they also need to be great in design. This is why it is a must that you purchase quality fighting gloves made by a top name brand. Fighting gloves that are designed in a weak manner present a serious injury risk. That certainly does not open the door for a good training experience.
It is also not good if the gloves wear down after only a few months of use. Quality MMA fighting gloves would definitely last a long time.
