Mma Classes In Las Vegas
Martial Arts Studio Question?
So, I’m a Jr. Black Belt in a Tang Soo Do and Krav Maga hybrid style and, due to the fact that my instructor recently retired to Las Vegas, I am in search of a new Martial Arts studio.
Now, when my instructor left, the program was transferred to a Shorin-Ryu Karate class that I am very interested in. I have almost advanced to my Yellow Belt in a matter of weeks (due to similarities between styles) but still want more. Then one day while at Dairy Queen getting some dessert, I noticed a new Martial Arts place called “Premier Martial Arts” that’s supposed to open at the end of the month. Judging by their website, they look pretty decent. They teach Karate, Kickboxing, Grappling, Kali, and Krav Maga. They also have an MMA program that I’d be interested in.
So, has anyone heard of/practiced in a Premier Martial Arts school? If so, how did you like it? Did it help you? Would you recommend it to a 13-year-old Martial Artist who is very passionate about the practice?
Hold on there cowboy. I think you are getting ahead of yourself. You are making assumptions about how good a school is that is not even open because of their web site. That is like buying a used car that is advertised in your local paper without seeing it and driving it first.
Before you do anything you need to wait and see what they teach with your own eyes. Just because they offer more arts does not mean that they are better. There are many instructors but very few good ones. I’ve been involved in the study of the martial arts since 1967. I have taught it since 1973. Trust me when I say that there are very, very few really good instructors out there. Do your research before you do anything.
Final Note: The Name “Premier Martial Arts” gives me a bad feeling. It sounds to commercial, could be a McDojo? Last of all the word “studio” does not belong when describing a good dojo. Perhaps a McDojo but not a real Dojo.
