Mma Instructional Dvds
are mma instructional dvds good?
Alex M it takes many years of practice to be considerd a Mixed Martial Arts practitioner through training and education in “mutiple arts” bro. This whole sport thing isn’t just something that a kid wakes up one day and says to himself, “I think I’ll give MMA a try”. MMA practitioners are only considered MMA practitioners because they have backgrounds in “multiple art forms” and most have been at practice since their childhoods. You can go the route you want to go, but you’ll find it very brutal in the cage against someone with years and years more training, education and experience than you have dude.
If you’re going to begin the instructional DVD route then I say go for it, but one thing you will need to do is “isolate” what arts you want to study and practice and train under those with a partner or some one interested in “Mixed Martial Arts” as you are. You can start out with any art, even “Boxing” and then move onto something like Judo, Jujitsu, Karate, etc. The whole entire point of practicing Mixed Martial Arts only kicks in after you’ve taken a few “traditional arts” first. This isn’t some thing that you’ll do over night either or even in a few months via the DVD route. However there are “Mixed Martial Arts” gyms and schools out there that will lead you through “jujitsu” even though they’ll be calling it MMA.
here’s a prime example of something close to what you’d learn at a MMA gym with MMA instructors:
Team Bushi MMA Practitioner Levels
* Novice * ( Three months training )
Striking from the arms ( punches, palm strikes )
Striking from the legs ( all kicks and knee strikes )
Striking from Top mount top mount guard ( all strikes )
Striking from Bottom Mount, bottom guard and half guard ( all strikes )
Striking from the clinch ( concepts and techniques )
Countering Strikes upper body ( both types of soft blocking, fade, sway, bobbing, weaving, ducking, breaking )
Countering Strikes legs ( calf blocking, leg sweeping, catching )
Countering strikes from small of back in bottom mount and bottom guard ( both types of soft blocking, fade, sway )
* Intermediate * ( Four to five months training )
Take downs
Throws
Countering take downs
Countering throws
Countering top mount and top mount guard
Countering side mount
* Advanced * ( Four to five months training )
Submissions and transitioning top mount, bottom mount, side mount, bottom guard
Countering submissions top mount, bottom mount, side mount, bottom guard.
* Expert * ( on going permanently )
Practitioner must perform perfect execution of all the techniques learned at novice through advanced levels.
Practitioner will begin the study of the traditional art and techniques of Shorinji Ryu Jujitsu.
Strength training and endurance drills on the round timer ( minimum three ( 3 ) days per week.
Constant review and practice of technique.
Regular weekly or bi-weekly Sparring.
Personal technique developement.
No Team Bushi member may be entered into any type of competition, ring, cage or otherwise, without first obtaining the level of “Expert” and be at least 18 years of age. It will take any member of Team Bushi 12 -14 months to obtain the level of “Expert”. No member may be advanced from one level to the next without first completing a minimum of three ( 3 ) days per week at our training facility.

Now as you can see you’re only going to be “Fight Ready” by the time you get into the cage. These things above are all taken form “jujitsu” with some Okinawan Karate and boxing techniques peppered in here and there as far as my own teaching goes and even though it’s not a detailed list the work is still extremely hard this list doesn’t do the hard work any justice.
These things in this list are aimed specifically at “cage competition” training and are not part of any “self-defense” system. You’ll learn almost the same kinds of things aat any MMA gym or dojo teaching BJJ ( short list ). maybe not dead on what I’ve put together here but close enough.
Takes a while dude to get done….. so don’t rush it what ever route you choose.
If you decide to go the path of the “Independent Fighter” you’ll be sorry as well. A MMA Team has a coaching staff for a reasn dude…… like making sure the competitions you go to are “Credible promotion companies” ….. then there’s “Sports Medicine” to consider that coaching staffs completely understands….. dietary needs of fighters, strength training trainers, boxing coaches, wrestling coaches, etc, etc, etc, etc, all at one facility ……the list of the details goes on and on and on. “Independent Fighters” throw safety and caution to the wind and often end up hurt in the long run because they don’t have the backing of the “qualified people” of a decent MMA Team.
