Daniel “Ninja” Roberts finally experienced defeated a few fights back, but still stands strong with an 11-1 record. Greg Soto too experienced a loss recently, but that was from disqualification due to an illegal upkick.

Former WEC champion Mike Brown will make his UFC debut against Diego Nunes Veteran MMA fighter Antonio McKee will make his UFC debut at 40 years-old and will have his hands full with Jacob Volkmann. As UFC 125 approaches stay tuned as I will bring you more info as the fight card approaches and analysis of the fights as they occur.

LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – The co-main event of UFC 125 on Saturday is a middleweight contest between fan favorite and rising star Chris Leben and former solider Brian Stann. Here is a look at my pick for this bout.

Stann was a former light heavyweight that moved down to middleweight after struggling at the larger weight. A former Army Ranger, Stann has the right mindset to be a successful MMA star, but he lacks the overall skill that can push him over the top. His only real chance to win this fight is to get it to the ground and use his size and strength to control Leben, but to do that, he will likely have to eat some punches.

Respect is the name of the game for Chris Leben at UFC 125. On fight night in Las Vegas, he’ll step in the Octagon with a guy who’s done more than his share of fighting. At the pre-fight press conference in the MGM Grand Lobby, Leben spoke about fighting a man who has seen real combat outside of a sanctioned body. Showing respect for his pending foe, Leben commended Stann, a former U.S. Marine, for fighting a different fight.

The reasonable mixed martial arts fan can come to a conclusion about fighting: experiences in real world conflict are several times scarier than what one can imagine in the Octagon. There are ringside physicians on-hand at every UFC card; the same can’t be said about a trench in Afghanistan or a dune in Iraq. Instead of punches, kicks, and joint locks; it’s bullets, grenades, and bombs.

My New Year’s resolution will be to stop betting my life savings on MMA fights. Unfortunately, the Gambling Gods aren’t too interested in helping curb my addiction with the release of the complete wagering odds for UFC 125. Frankie Edgar will be entering his third consecutive title fight when he rematches Gray Maynard Saturday inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

UFC 125 is headlined by the first World Lightweight Title fight to not feature B.J. Penn since the summer of 2007 and only the third such matchup in the championship’s near decade-long existence. Penn’s nemesis Frankie Edgar (13-1; 2KOs, 3SUBs) tries to build on his two victories against the longstanding divisional kingpin by defeating the only man to beat him, TUF7 semi-finalist Gray Maynard (10-0-1NC; 2KOs). In many ways Edgar and Maynard are strikingly similar.

What both lack are the finishing skills that one would expect of world-class fighters, as between them 13 of their 17 UFC fights have gone the distance. I spoke to Maynard last autumn about this failure to finish fights, and he was quick to make clear that it was due to the quality of competition in the lightweight division, pointing out that he “doesn’t see too many people knocking our tapping out” among the fighters he has despatched in his march through the division.

“UFC 125: Resolution” will be jumping off tonight inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first preliminary bout is scheduled to start at approximately 7:20PM ET/4:20PM PT. Make sure to stay with 5thRound.com all night for our live coverage. ION Television will air three live preliminary bouts beginning at 9PM ET/6PM PT. The pay-per-view broadcast begins immediately after the hour-long freebie at 10PM ET/7PM PT. A lightweight title scrap between champ Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard will headline the Octagon’s first show of the new decade. Edgar will be entering his third consecutive title fight when he rematches Maynard tonight. The bout marks his second straight as the 155-pound king.
