Official Ufc Weight Classes
Its Official: Fertittas Acquire PRIDE?
Theres been a lot fo talks about this lately but it looks like its finally been confirmed.
So what I want to know is how will this impact the MMA landscape? Specifically what fighters from Pride would you like to see compete in the UFC and which ones in the UFC would you like to see compete in Pride? What are your dream matchups by weight class?
This is huge news and I’m pumped so lets hear it.

First of all, I’m way pumped too, because in their press conference the new brass of Pride and the UFC talked about dream match ups. Last night I read that Shogun Rua signed a new 4 fight deal, with two of those fights to be in the UFC! Wandi Silva didn’t sign a contract, as he was asked to take a 30% pay cut. But after his last two performances, he should have to. Fedor apparently is leaning toward Bodog, as it is based in Russia. Arona signed a similar deal to Shogun Rua, so we’ll see him in the octagon soon as well. The Noguiera brothers are supposedly up in the air and I haven’t heard about any other fighters. But here are my dream match up, regardless of who gets signed and who doesn’t.
Heavyweight:
CroCop v. Fedor – Fedor won the first match up and would probably win the second time around.
Vera v. Noguiera – great match up between two similar fighters.
Barnett v. Couture – Randy looked pretty good against Sylvia, yet Barnett might come back hungry to claim his old belt.
Tim Sylvia v. Mark Hunt – Sylvia would continue his losing streak
Arlovski v. Aleksander Emelianenko – too close to call
Light Heavyweight:
Liddell v. Rua – I think Rua is the best in his weight class, but it will be hard for him to beat Chuck in the Octagon.
Ricardo Arona v. Tito Ortiz – These two are beasts, too close to call.
Rampage Jackson v. Sodkoujou – I can’t believe Sodkoujou beat lil’ Nog!
Wandi v. Michael Bisping – We’ll see if Bisping would be up the the challenge at UFC 70.
Middleweight:
Ryo Chonan v. Anderson Silva – gotta give Silva the chance to avenge a loss
Rich Franklin v. Dan Henderson – Henderson looked great in his win over Silva last month
Swick v. Filho – I think the Brazilian takes this one
Welterweight:
GSP v. Sakurai – Gomi is no longer the best in his weight class over at Pride
BJ Penn v. Takanori Gomi – this would be a war!
Matt Hughes v. Frank Trigg – Hughes would win again
I know I left out an entire weight class, but hopefully with the acquisition of Pride, the weight class issue will be fixed. One of the biggest events will be the lightweight grand prix, which will be great if BJ Penn, Jens Pulver, Sean Sherk and Aurellio all are able to compete.
