Ohio Mma Events
In the state of Ohio, who is at fault if a pro competes as an amateur at an amateur mma event?
I recently competed in an amateur MMA event in Ohio. When I heard who I was facing I did some research. My opponent came back as a Pro boxer from WV. I then asked the matchmaker/promoter if it was the same guy and he told me no. It turns out that guy I faced is indeed the professional boxer from WV! I am very upset they lied to me but I am having a hard time figuring out is it the promoters fault or is it the commissions fault he was able to fight me?
I did suffer a kock out due to a slam and was order by the fight doctor to go to the ER and get a CAT SCAN.
knock* not kock
It looks like, according to Ohio Code 3773-7-20(B), a contestant, who is currently, or has been a professional fighter in any striking sport, will be suspended for 1 to 2 years.
This section doesn’t address any liability for anyone else. In Ohio, a fighter must have a minimum of five recorded amateur bouts before being permitted to compete as a professional; it’s possible boxing matches from another state don’t count.
I’m sure you signed a nice waiver of liability for injuries suffered during a bout. So you’re probably on your own for your hospital bills.
