UFC 122 Featuring Nate Marquardt VS Yushin Okami
UFC 122 was originally slated to feature a main event fight of Vitor Belfort vs Yushin Okami. However, Belfort has been pulled from the fight for an upcoming bout against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in early 2011. Replacing Belfort will be Nate Marquardt.
A 31 year old fighter out of Denver, Colorado, Marquardt is a three-time Middleweight King of Pancrase Champion, and comes with a 30-9-2 record. In 2000, Marquardt became the youngest fighter to ever own the title “King of Pancrase”. Marquardt, standing at 6 feet tall and 185 pounds is coming into the match fresh off of a win against Rousimar Palhares at UFC Fight Night 22.
The more experienced Marquardt will be squaring off against the more imposing Yushin Okami of Japan. The 6 foot, 2 inch, 185 pound Yushin comes into the match with a 25-5 record. Okami’s main card debut at UFC 69 ended in a win by unanimous decision. A year ago, at UFC 104, Yushin lost to Chael Sonnen. However, since then, Yushin has won both of his matches at UFC Fight Night 21 and UFC Live 2.
The bout between Marquardt and Okami will air via tape delay on Spike TV. The immediate results of UFC 122 will be available on UFC122Results.com. The winner of the match should get a shot at the UFC middleweight championship.
As well as the main middleweight title eliminator bout, the co-main event will feature the hot middleweights Alessio Sakara and Jorge Rivera. Both men are coming in with three back-to-back victories and should present quite the spectacular matchup.
Also of note at UFC 122, the Undercard will feature the finalist of season eleven of The Ultimate Fighter, Kris McCray (6-1) matching up against the undefeated Carlos Eduardo Rocha (8-0) in his UFC debut.
