Fedor Emelianenko has never fought in the UFC. He’s fought for other MMA organizations like Pride (who at the time had the best Heavyweight division in MMA), Rings, Affliction, and Bodog fight. However, he’s beaten a laundry list of guys that have held the UFC HW title, including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (twice), Mark Coleman (twice), Tim Sylvia (in 36 seconds), Andrei Arlovski, and Kevin Randleman. He’s beaten title contenders like Tsuyoshi Kohsaka, Babalu Sobral, and Heath Herring. He’s beaten knockout artists like Mirko Crocop and Gary Goodridge. He’s beaten K-1 kickboxing champions like Mark Hunt and Semmy Schilt. He’s beaten Ricardo Arona, who’s undefeated in ADCC submission wrestling. He’s beaten giants like Hong Man Choi and Zuluzinho. He’s beaten two Olympic silver medalists… Naoya Ogawa from Judo and Matt Lindland from Greco-Roman wrestling… and he is, himself, a multi-time World Champion in Sambo and Russian champion in Judo.

Moreover, he beats them where they’re the best. And he makes it look easy.

He beat Ogawa, an Olympic silver-medalist, by using Judo moves. He beat Nogueira, a BJJ black belt with a dangerous guard, by sitting in his guard and pounding his head into the mat. He beat Coleman, the “Godfather of Ground-and-Pound”, from underneath him with an arm bar. He stood and traded with Crocop, considered the best striker in MMA at the time, and beat him on the feet. He knocked out Andrei Arlovski, who’s got the best boxing of any heavyweight in MMA.

And through all of this, Fedor has never shown any emotion. He never loses his cool, he never panics, he never shows any pain.

His one “loss” was under weird circumstances; he got cut with an illegal shot in a tournament, and the match should have been a “no contest”, but since someone had to advance in the tournament and Fedor was cut and couldn’t continue, they had to rule it a loss. He avenged this loss by beating the holy snot out of the guy the next time they met.

Fedor is incredibly fast, deceptively strong, and is skilled in all areas of MMA. His stand-up striking is a bit sloppy but effective; his throws are world-class; if he’s on top he’s got the best ground-and-pound in MMA; if he’s on the bottom, he’ll find a submission. 23 of his 30 wins have come within the first round; 11 of those have occurred withing the first two minutes of the first round. And what’s more, he’s a nice, classy guy who always shakes hands with his opponents, always smiles for the fans, and never says anything disrespectful about his opponents.

The only reason he isn’t in the UFC is due to contract disputes between the UFC and his management. He’s the best heavyweight in the world, and arguably the best fighter in the world.
