Ufc Leg Break Corey Hill
Injuries in MMA, specifically the UFC?
When major injuries occur in the UFC like Corey Hill’s leg break for example, who is responsible for the medical costs in the aftermath? Does the UFC cover the surgeries, physical therapy, etc.? Or are the fighters required to carry additional insurance covering such types of injuries?
The UFC purchases insurance for its fighters for specific injuries related to their fight. Corey Hill’s injury will be covered by insurance (the UFC obviously claims it is good, but no one truly knows exactly how much will be covered in an injury like his where he can’t work for months) but other wear and tear injuries that are suffered through years of training are not usually covered. The perfect example is Tito Ortiz. He had a back injury from training so much over the years, but it wasn’t covered under the insurance because the injury wasn’t specifically attained in the Octagon. He had to wait several years to finnally just pay for back surgery himself. But, if he were to have suffered that same back injury during one of his fights in the UFC and the ringside or during his post fight orthopedic exame would have turned up the injury the UFC’s insurance company would have had to pay it. Instead they can say it happened during a time period that they weren’t responsible for his physical condition and he is on his own.
Basically if it occurs during a fight its covered, not specifically during a fight, you are out of luck
