Ufc Weigh Ins 71
Why is the UFC heavy weight division the only division with such a large weight differential?
No other weight division seems to even come close to a 59 pound weight spread. It’s kind of crazy to think that come fight night it’s possible that a 210 pound fighter could be stepping into the ring against a guy that could realistically weigh 275 pounds in the cage. Wouldn’t that be kind of like BJ Penn stepping up against Forest Griffin?
Here’s the 5 weight divisions for the UFC I copied off of Wikipedia.
# Lightweight: 145 to 155 lb (66 to 70 kg) (10 pound spread)
# Welterweight: 156 to 170 lb (71 to 77 kg) (14 pound spread)
# Middleweight: 171 to 185 lb (78 to 84 kg) (14 pound spread)
# Light Heavyweight: 186 to 205 lb (84 to 93 kg) (19 pound spread)
# Heavyweight: 206 to 265 lb (93 to 120 kg) (59 pound spread)
There are very few people over 265 but plenty between that and 206. Bigger guys who fight at this caliber are harder to come by than maybe some lighter dudes.
